Moodboard...

My group and I came up with a few ideas of what style we would like our music to be. We took into considerations; Genre, Costume, Instruments, Location and Inspirations. I produced this moodboard to summarise all of our ideas so that we could refer back to it whilst filming to make sure we are on the right track.
Over the next few posts i will be breaking down the plot to our music video...

Another video i looked at for my inspirational texts is 'Birdy - Shelter' I feel this video really fits in with the theme and genre that we want to create in our own music video. An idea that we thought was of having a 'girl' featured in the film as the main character. Throughout this video there is a constant tracking of a girl. However, in our video we wanted the girl to sort of look mysterious and 'unknown' There are various longshots and close ups in this video of the girls back, which inspired us to shoot our video like that. The location of the video is in a derelict feild, in the middle of where seems to be nowhere. The lighting in the video is made very dull, which could create a sad, dull feeling which would fit in with the genre of the song. This inspired us to add a 'sepia' effect to our video as it makes the video look 'aged' like as if it was shot in a different era, it also creates a sense of curiosity and mysterious as the browny shade makes the video dull. The feilds inwhich are shot in this video create realism and really work well with the indie genre that was wished to be created. The colours in the video are mainly greens and dark blues. The dark sky really contrasts with the green feilds. The plants in the feilds arent the typical 'pretty' plantes they are more like weeds or something that you dont want there which really conveys the 'dull' and 'moody/sad' feel to the video.

Inspirational Texts...

For one of my first inspirational texts, i have chosen to decompose Laura Marlings video for Devils Spoke. This video in particular is how i would like to make my video similar to.
The sepia/grainy tone to the video gives it a sort of vintage look which is the look that we want to portray in our video. I feel this really fits in with the folk style of music. The setting of the video is mainly set in fields in a countryside which is where we want to film the majority of our video. The first shot of the sun across the field in the video is very striking and sets the scene for the whole video, i think this is a really good idea as it gives the audience an idea of the location. Close ups are used of Laura's face, this is very intimate and natural. I like how she isn't wearing much make up, it gives the video a natural look. The video is very cultural and shows a lot of shots of the location in the country. In the video we see a shot of some stones and a shot of Laura's face has been faded into it, i think this is a really good idea and would like to attempt to incorporate it into our video.
In the video there are  alot of jumps between shots of day and night as the music quickens tempo. This really compliments the rhythm of the music. I feel the simplicity of the transitions really go with the style of music featured in the video. There are alot of shots of all the different instruments used throughout the video. I feel this video has given us a lot of ideas to work with on our video.

Feedback on our print tasks!

In order for us to collate a range of different feedback for our print tasks we decided to ask people to give their opinion on our work. We recorded this in a video so that we could look back at it. When we recorded the video, we left the camera recording and we left so that it gave the audience a chance to say what they really felt. We also decided to ask them a few questions about the products so that we could get a conversation/debate going. These are some of the questions we asked...
  • Did you like the style of the images?
  • Did you feel the style of the writing/font complimented the style of the images?
  • Did you think the use of two different locations worked well together?
  • What did you like in particular about it?
  • Would you like to see anything changed in the print task?
  • We then asked the audience to rate our products out of ten.

Inspirational Text - Albums

Here is an example of, what i think, is an inspirational album cover. I like the pose in the image. This is what we want to convey in our own album cover. The model will have their back to the camera with a slight head turn towards the camera, just like the one in this image. The model that we are using has a tattoo on her right shoulder and this is what we want to capture as the main feature in the image. The tatto is of a feather with birds flying out of the top. We caught this idea when we were searching for example album covers and we also found this album cover...
This album cover by a band called the deftones inspired us when we came across the bird. It reminded us of the tattoo on our models back. We like the simpleness of the cover and how striking the bird was.

A2 Coursework

For this years coursework me and a few others in my class decided to compose our own music video, I thought this would be a good idea because i feel i could learn more skills as i have already composed a music magazine and i would like to explore the video aspects of media. In the next few posts i will be breaking down the plot to our music video...
